A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNMENTAL PURCHASING AGENTS AND PROCLAIMING MARCH 1999 AS "PURCHASING MONTH" IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Association of Governmental Purchasing Agents currently has over 500 active members representing nearly every county in the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Association of Governmental Purchasing Agents (MAGPA) is a chapter of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing Agents which has over 3,000 national members and twice as many chapter members, including public purchasing agents, property officers, information technology professionals and beginning in 1999, state travel procurement officers; and

WHEREAS, the purchasing and materials management profession works for private, public and nonprofit organizations and has tremendous influence on economic conditions in the United States, with an accumulative purchasing power running into the billions of dollars; and

WHEREAS, the members of this profession encourage and sponsor activities to promote education, training and certification in purchasing and materials management, thereby setting higher standards in order to utilize precious tax dollars more efficiently; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Mississippi Association of Governmental Purchasing Agents are residents of Mississippi communities across our state, participating in community service projects that benefit their fellow citizens:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the Mississippi Association of Governmental Purchasing Agents (MAGPA) as leaders in state government, and proclaim March 1999 as "Purchasing Month" in the State of Mississippi.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be forwarded to the President of MAGPA, the Secretary of State, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
